Top 5 breastfeeding essentials || World Breastfeeding Week

We are slap bang in the middle of World Breastfeeding Week (1 to 7 August 2014) and I thought I’d share my top 5 breastfeeding essentials.

Breastfeeding essentials

Nipple Cream: Nipple cream is a waste of time – said no breastfeeding mother EVER! This is an absolute must and you should get a few, for the handbag, bathroom, nursing chair, coffee table, bedside table, and pretty much anywhere you sit an breastfeed. Lansinoh is a popular, award-winning brand often recommended to breastfeeding mums and can be found in most leading supermarkets and drug stores.

Aden and Anais Musy squares: These are a bit smaller than their popular swaddles and are the perfect size burping baby on the move or at home. Use them over your shoulder to protect clothing, to wipe up baby and mop up any mess. Wash them over and over and they get softer and softer. Get them from Aden and Anais online. Find out more about these Limited Edition (RED) Collection ones which are for a good cause.

Medela Hydrogel Pads: A pack of sterile, wrapped pads to provide relief to sore boobs and cracked nipples. To be honest I didn’t know about these with my first child and I ended up with ice packs and cool cabbage leaves down my top. I found that the first week or so of breastfeeding was the toughest on my boobs and any relief I could find was welcome. This time round I am definitely investing in a few packs of these.  Get them from John Lewis or Boots.

Snoob Breastfeeding Scarf: Created by mums for mums, this stylish scarf doubles up as a breastfeeding cover. Gone are the days when you scratch around for a cardigan or napkin to provide a bit of last minute cover. It comes in Grey, Pink, Olive, Cream and Orchid colours and it can be used way past your breastfeeding days. I can’t wait to use mine! Get yours at the Snoob Store online.

Seraphine Nursing Bra: I can’t stress the importance of good support and easy access when it comes to bras and breastfeeding. Basically, you pay for what you get when it comes to underware and a few good quality nursing bras are a must. Seraphine, a favourite amongst celebrities, has a great range of nursing bras available online and in stores.

Those are my top 5 breastfeeding essentials – do you have any that you would add to the list?
